Modern Bullion Coins
1999-W $10 Quarter-Ounce Gold Eagle, Unfinished Proof Dies, FS-401, MS70 NGC. Inexplicably, the Mint employed unfinished proof dies with the West Point mintmark to produce circulation-strike Gold Eagles in the five and ten dollar denominations in 1999. This interesting variety, the only die variety in the series, is listed among the 100 Greatest U.S. Modern Coins by Schechter and Garrett. This is a flawless, rose-gold representative with full strike characteristics and semireflective fields. Census: 48 in 70 (11/16).
