1886 $1 Morgan Dollar -- Struck Six Times, Close Overlap -- MS64 PCGS. 39 mm. The type has a standard diameter of 38.1 mm. The first strike was normal, but the coin failed to eject from the dies, and was struck an additional five times. The coin remained stationary throughout, and no planchets were fed in between strikes. The portrait and eagle are fully struck, unusual for the series. Evidence of the multiple strikes is most apparent on the dentils, although other peripheral elements also show doubling and distortion.
