1987 $1 Silver Eagle -- Struck on a 3M Sanding Disc -- MS64 PCGS. An emery or sanding disc is granular, wafer-thin, round, and dark gray. It is typically affixed to a buffing wheel, and used at the U.S. Mint to finish dies. On rare occasions, these discs end up between silver eagle planchets in a planchet feeder. The present piece was struck between a silver eagle obverse die and a silver eagle planchet. The obverse is well defined, and the reverse displays an incused and reversed impression of the obverse.
