So-Called Dollars
1900 $1 Lesher Dollar, A.B. Bumstead, Type Two, Serial No. 976, HK-789, R.5, MS64 PCGS. CAC. Silver proponent Joseph Lesher issued "referendum souvenirs" between 1900 and 1901. A.B. Bumstead, a grocer in Victor, Colorado, was his biggest customer. Other merchants also participated, but the Secret Service soon put an end to Lesher's activities. Type One Bumstead examples have scrollwork on each side of the fasces. Type Two pieces omit that scrollwork. This is a high grade piece with sea-green borders and chestnut-gold fields. Sharply struck and desirable. Listed on page 415 of the 2017 Guide Book. Population: 2 in 64, 0 finer. CAC: 1 in 64, 0 finer (11/16).
