An interesting sidebar to collecting Type One Hallmark ingot in the five-ounce class is the variation in fineness seen here. Apparently the 999.0 Fineness ingots came at the last of the Type One Oval Hallmark, Large Font series. There is a run of ingots in the 999.0 Fineness, Large Font, Curved 9s known that have Serial Numbers between 1737 and 1824. So, this number 1815 fits well within the known range. The surfaces are original with deep gray patina over all the sides.
