Early Proof Sets
1891 $1 Six-Piece Proof Set, PR64-PR65 NGC. From the same source as the 1880, 1882, and 1886 proof sets in Platinum Night. This set includes:

Cent PR65 Red and Brown. The obverse is bright and untoned with nicely mirrored fields. The reverse is deep cherry-red with a hint of moss-green over the left side of the wreath. Sharply struck.

Liberty Nickel PR64. Again, a very different different obverse/reverse look. The obverse is pale aqua-blue with deep mirrors in the fields. The reverse is streaked with rose and lilac and the fields are a bit more subdued. A carbon spot on the lower portion of the neck explains the grade.

Seated Dime PR65. Target-toned with pale rose in the center of the obverse surrounded by deep cobalt-blue, while the reverse has concentric rose, deep blue, and pale yellow patina. Deeply mirrored fields.

Seated Quarter PR65. Each side has the same coloration -- rose and deep blue -- but in varying depths. The obverse is a bit deeper in color, but the fields still shine brightly through the color. The reverse is lighter than the obverse with more rose, and also displays deep proof mirrors. Sharply detailed.

Seated Half PR65. Splendid toning on each side and differently colored on each side. The obverse shows light yellow, pale rose, and light blue. The reverse displays swirling deep red and cobalt-blue. Both sides are brightly mirrored in the fields with the coloration no impediment to recognition as a proof striking.

Morgan Dollar PR64. The toning is nothing short of spectacular and well-balanced from side to side on this near-Gem proof dollar. Each side displays bright shades of rose, deep blue, and yellow toning in varying intensities. Brightly mirrored fields. For a coin that is not PR65, there are no obvious contact marks or other flaws apparent.
