1854 P1C Flying Eagle Cent, Judd-164 Original, Pollock-189, R.5 PR64 Brown NGC. The hook-necked flying eagle design is surrounded by stars and the date below. The reverse closely resembles the regular dies issue for the large cent, although the wreath and letters are smaller, as is the diameter. Struck in bronze with a plain edge. Judd-164 was an early part of the Mint effort to replace the cumbersome large cent, culminating in the 1857 Flying Eagle cent. This is a nicely struck deep brown specimen with frequent hints of the introductory orange-gold color. Unabraded and satiny with pleasing surfaces. Both sides exhibit a partial wire rim.
From The Palos Verdes Collection.
