1878 $1 Goloid Dollar, Judd-1557, Pollock-1749, Low R.6, PR63 PCGS. Liberty wears a cap and faces left with the date below, E PLURIBUS UNUM above, seven stars left and six right. The reverse has GOLOID, the composition, and weight in grains in the center, surrounded by a circle of 38 stars, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA above and ONE DOLLAR below at the periphery. Struck in goloid alloy with a reeded edge. Approximately two dozen pieces are known of this design and in this peculiar metal. An additional six examples were struck in copper. The fields are still brightly reflective and enhance the russet patina that surrounds the margins. Housed in a green label holder.
