1759 (1965) Martha Washington Dime Test Piece, Judd-2101, Pollock-2081, Low R.7, MS62 NGC. 34.94 grains, very similar to the standard weight of a clad dime. The Martha Washington "nonsense dies" were first used circa-1965 to test silver replacement alloys for the dime, quarter, and half dollar. They were also used in 1999 to test alloys for the Sacagawea dollar. The obverse, by Edward R. Grove, depicts a Bust Right of the first First Lady. The reverse, by Philip Fowler, presents a corner view of Washington's Mount Vernon home. Struck in clad (cupronickel-copper) composition with a reeded edge. An essentially unabraded pearl-gray example held back in grade by a soft central strike and a small obverse spot at 5 o'clock.
