1759 (1965) 50C Martha Washington Half Dollar Medalet, Judd-2132, Pollock-2083, Low R.7, MS64 NGC. 172.94 grains. The obverse has a bust of Martha Washington with the date 1759, while the reverse shows Mount Vernon. The Mint calls these "nonsense dies" because they lack reference to the current date and the denomination. This piece was struck with a reeded edge in multilateral cupronickel-copper to test the composition in preparation for the clad coins of 1965. The Martha Washington design would later be used to test other alloys and denominations. The surfaces are bright and satiny with pronounced die clashing on each side.
