1849-D G$1 AU58 NGC. Variety 1-A. The 1849-D Open Wreath Dahlonega gold dollar issue has a low mintage of 21,588 pieces. Two die marriages are confirmed, with the "mintmark left" Variety 1-A somewhat more available than the "mintmark centered" Variety 1-B. Yellow-gold surfaces with traces of light green display luster in recessed areas, and the design elements are sharply struck throughout. A few light contact marks do not detract. Census: 88 in 58 (1 in 58+), 110 finer (11/16).
