Gold Dollars
1850-O G$1 MS61 NGC. Variety 1. All of the O-mint Type One gold dollars have plentiful mintages, with one exception. The 1850-O has a meager production of 14,000 pieces, perhaps because Seated dollars were also struck at New Orleans that year, but also due to the fact that double eagle coinage began in 1850 at this mint. This is a well-struck, satiny example with original khaki-gold toning. Faint vertical marks near the profile limit the grade but are difficult to see with the unaided eye. Census: 49 in 61, 26 finer (11/16).
