Gold Dollars
1853-O G$1 MS64 PCGS. Variety 1. A fully struck butter-gold near-Gem that boasts vibrant luster and an absence of relevant marks. The fields exhibit an orange-peel texture, as struck from long-in-use dies. The 1853-O mintage was only about 7% of its Philadelphia counterpart. It was the peak year for gold dollar production, since the denomination was needed in commerce to replace hoarded old tenor Seated coinage. Population: 39 in 64 (3 in 64+), 10 finer (11/16).
