Gold Dollars
1855-O G$1 AU58 NGC. Variety 2. The upper-left portion of the wreath is lapped and the 1 in the date is partly under the first L in DOLLAR, attributing the variety. The 1855-O is the most popular New Orleans gold dollar because it is the only issue from this mint with the Indian Head or "Type Two" design. The typical greenish-gold hue shows on this near-Mint piece. It is better struck than ordinarily seen though the upper part of the 8 is somewhat weak. Luster is seen in the recessed areas, and the planchet is of higher quality than that of other southern branch mint gold dollars. Two or three light obverse marks do not detract.
