Gold Dollars
1859-D G$1 AU58 NGC. Variety 11-N. Well-struck for a Dahlonega gold dollar, the 1859-D is somewhat available despite a low mintage of just 4,952 pieces. Doug Winter estimates between 300 and 350 pieces survive in all grades. This example displays attractive, light orange-gold toning with a few field abrasions but hardly any marks on the portrait. Mint luster remains in protected areas. Census: 40 in 58 (1 in 58+), 32 finer (11/16).
