Gold Dollars
1865 G$1 MS66 NGC. Only 3,725 pieces were struck of the gold dollar in 1865, and while moderately available in the lower grades of Uncirculated there are only a handful of really exceptional coins have survived from the small group that was obviously set aside at the time of issue. This is a bright, semiprooflike example that displays die striations on each side as well as evidence of die clashing in the fields. Rich orange-gold color. Census: 4 in 66, 2 finer (11/16).
