Gold Dollars
1874 G$1 MS67 PCGS. The 1874 gold dollar, from a mintage of 198,800 pieces, is one of the most frequently seen gold dollar coins. PCGS and NGC have graded about 7,000 examples, making the date available with little difficulty through near-Gem. MS65 and MS66 pieces can be located with diligent searching, but higher grade specimens are scarce to rare. The bright yellow-gold surfaces of this Superb Gem offering exhibit pleasing luster and are nicely preserved. The design elements are well-struck, except that only parts of the LI in LIBERTY show, a common characteristic of the date resulting from die or hub deterioration. A toning spot near the rim between the AM in AMERICA will help to identify the coin. Population: 36 in 67 (2 in 67+), 2 finer (11/16).
