Gold Dollars
1876 G$1 MS65 PCGS. Demand for gold dollars was virtually non-existent by 1876. The public had largely come to accept paper currency as a convenient medium of exchange, as gold and silver had not circulated for many years after the Civil War. About 300 1876 gold dollars are believed extant, only a handful of them meeting the requirements for a Gem assessment. This piece has rich yellow-gold color with splashes of lavender, olive, and orange. Incompleteness of strike is typical for the date, seen here on the lower curls and the central reverse. Population: 9 in 65, 6 finer (11/16).
