Gold Dollars
1881 G$1 MS67 PCGS. CAC. The small mintage of just 7,620 business strikes offered many examples with prooflike surfaces so deep and reflective they were mistaken for proofs, fooling collectors and dealers alike. This remarkable Superb Gem is an unmistakable circulation strike, although areas of prooflikeness exist among the brilliant, frosted surfaces. Attractive, orange-gold toning covers the fields and devices, revealing lemon-gold margins and lilac accents. Abrasion-free surfaces display a full strike. There are no copper stains, die polish lines, or evidence of die clashing that are so often found on gold dollars of the 1880s. This gleaming dollar offers exceptional eye appeal, and is a great example for the type.
