Classic Quarter Eagles
1834 $2 1/2 MS61 PCGS. Large Head, Breen-6140, Variety 2, R.3 A crisply impressed introductory-year type coin with bright mint luster throughout the borders and devices. Gold coins were reduced in weight (i.e. devalued) beginning with the Classic types, which enabled examples to remain in circulation. As a result, Classic quarter eagles are relatively plentiful in VF to XF grades, but Mint State pieces are very scarce.
