Liberty Quarter Eagles
1855-C $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. Variety 1. The 1855-C quarter eagle is a challenging acquisition in any grade, as only 85 to 105 pieces are believed extant. The present near-Mint example displays satiny original luster with glistening orange-gold hues throughout the light marked fields. The 1855-C has a reputation for being weakly struck, and this example is indeed incomplete on the lower portion of the eagle and on several obverse stars. Eye appeal nonetheless exceeds expectations for the grade. Census: 16 in 58 (1 in 58+), 18 finer (10/16).
