Liberty Quarter Eagles
1861 $2 1/2 Old Reverse, Type One, MS61 NGC. For some reason, the old-style reverse hub was utilized one final time in 1861 with Large Letters and large arrowheads. While the exact mintage of Old Reverse quarter eagles is a mystery, grading events confirm the variety is many times rarer than the New Reverse. This Uncirculated example displays smooth and attractive surfaces that are sharply struck on the obverse, but weakly defined at the eagle's head and neck. Bright mint luster illuminates apricot-gold surfaces with orange accents. Census: 25 in 61, 23 finer (11/16).
