Indian Quarter Eagles
1911-D $2 1/2 AU58 PCGS. Strong D. The 1911-D is the unquestionable key to the Indian Head quarter eagle series. This near-Mint State offering displays light yellow-gold color with a greenish tint that is more prevalent on the reverse, and retains a good amount of luster. The design elements are well-defined. Even the shoulder of the right (facing) wing, an area worn flat on most AU examples, shows some feather detail. And as indicated on the holder, the D mintmark is strong. Only the upper-right reverse field reveals a handful of light ticks, fewer and less severe than ordinarily seen on pieces experiencing even brief circulation. All in all, this is a pleasing example of this remarkably clean, lustrous, well-detailed key date representative.
