Three Dollar Gold Pieces
1860-S $3 AU50 PCGS. Peach-colored luster consumes the borders, legends, and recessed areas of the devices. The portrait and wreath offer moderate rub, but the absence of detrimental abrasions is refreshing. Faint clashmarks (as made) from Liberty's crown are noted on the lower reverse. Problem-free San Francisco Mint examples of this popular gold denomination are infrequently encountered. Population: 14 in 50, 36 finer (10/16).
Ex: Portland Signature (Heritage, 3/2004), lot 6161.
