Three Dollar Gold Pieces
1881 $3 AU55 PCGS. With the exception of the 1870-S, which is unique, the 1881 three dollar gold piece boasts the lowest mintage of the series at only 500 coins. Much to the delight of collectors, many examples were saved at the time of issue. This Choice AU representative offers original orange-gold and olive patina with areas of reflectivity in the fields. The strike is sharp, and eye appeal is excellent. Population: 28 in 55, 49 finer (10/16).
