Three Dollar Gold Pieces
1882 $3 Repunched Date, FS-301, MS62 PCGS. A semiprooflike honey-gold and olive-green example. The strike is bold, and the few field marks are of little import. The 2 in the date is lightly but widely repunched north. Apparently, the first three date digits were entered first, with a gang punch, then the final date digit was inexpertly added and corrected. The same obverse die was used for the entire business mintage of only 1,576 pieces.
