Three Dollar Gold Pieces
1885 $3 MS61 PCGS. The year 1885 saw the Mint drop three dollar gold production to its second-lowest point since the series' inception in 1854. A total of 801 coins were distributed. Unsurprisingly, the 1885 stands among the semikeys in the series. This Uncirculated example is clearly prooflike with reflective fields, as is characteristic of the extremely low-mintage issues in this series. The strike is razor-sharp, and olive-gold color and wispy marks appear over each side. Housed in a first generation holder.
