Early Half Eagles
1818 $5 BD-1, R.5 -- Bent -- NGC Details. AU. Bass-Dannreuther Die State c, obverse clashed. BD-1 is one of the two rarer varieties of the 1818 half eagle, with only 50 to 65 examples believed extant in all grades. This representative offers attractive orange-gold surfaces with remnants of luster in the protected regions. The strike is even and sharp. There appears to be a subtle bend in the planchet along the lower-right obverse, although it is virtually unnoticed by the casual observer.
