Liberty Half Eagles
1843-D $5 Medium D AU50 PCGS. Variety 10-G. The mintage of the 1843-D five dollar was abundant with 98,452 pieces produced. Of that number it is estimated that today between 450 and 550 examples remain. It is only moderately challenging in the lower ranges of AU, and often serves as an early type coin for a Dahlonega half eagle. The surfaces show the usually encountered numerous abrasions seen on most surviving 1843-D fives. The strike is generally well-defined over the high points of the design.
