Liberty Half Eagles
1845-D $5 AU58 PCGS. Variety 13-H. The 1845-D is one of the frequently seen Dahlonega fives from the 1840s. Of the almost 500 survivors known in all grades today, only an estimated quarter of that number are AU or Mint State. This is a well-preserved example that has all the requisite features for a type piece: a strong strike, bright orange-gold surfaces, and small, scattered abrasions (not the usually heavily marked surfaces).
