Liberty Half Eagles
1849-C $5 MS61 NGC. Variety 2. This is the scarcer of the two known varieties, showing heavy die lines behind Liberty's neck. Overall, the 1849-C half eagle is fairly plentiful in the context of Charlotte gold, although Mint State examples are conditionally rare. The present example displays a sharp strike and reflective yellow-gold fields. Scattered abrasions are familiar to the grade. Census: 9 in 61, 11 finer (10/16).
