Liberty Half Eagles
1855-C $5 AU53 NGC. Variety 1. The 1855-C is moderately scarce in lower grades, but quickly enters the realm of a condition rarity in AU condition. The mintage was a hefty 39,788 pieces, but only 175-225 coins are estimated to have survived in all grades. Perhaps three dozen are extant today in AU. This piece shows even orange-gold color with traces of surviving mint luster around the devices. Uniform softness is noted over the high points of the design elements. Lightly abraded overall.
