1862 $5 AU50 NGC. The 1862 half eagle comes from a small 4,430-coin mintage, and fewer than 100 pieces are believed to survive in all grades. Uncirculated coins are rare. This AU example displays partially lustrous, satiny orange-gold surfaces and relatively smooth fields. The sharp design elements show little high-point wear. Census: 2 in 50, 28 finer (10/16).
