Liberty Half Eagles
1904 $5 MS67 NGC. Here is memorable example of this date which is seldom found so Superb. Glorious luster in the fields and the strike is typically sharp throughout. What makes this particular 1904 half eagle so unusual is quality, for the surfaces are finer than virtually any other surviving example of this date. Liberty's face and neck show the barest traces of handling, and the fields are as nice as one could expect to find. Only a handful of 1904 half eagles remain so pristine. Few left the Philadelphia Mint as nice as the present coin is today, as the slide down the coining chute into the hopper frequently caused more handling marks than are found on this specimen. Census: 8 in 67, 1 finer (10/16).
Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2006), lot 3500.
