1909-S $5 MS61 PCGS. The 1909-S poses an unexpected challenge considering its unassuming mintage of 297,000 coins. This is among the most elusive of the Pratt half eagles in mint condition. Examples invariably come sharply struck, as here. Honey-gold color, too, is representative of the issue. A thin scratch from the eagle's head to the first A in AMERICA is the only singular impairment.
