Liberty Eagles
1845-O $10 Repunched Date, VP-003 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. Unc. Variety 1. High Date. The 84 in the date is widely repunched south. The granular yellow-gold surfaces are mattelike and a bit subdued from the cleaning. Otherwise, this coin is remarkably sharp and does not show show wear, with bagmarks limited to a few small marks and tiny nicks. Mint State examples of the issue are extremely rare, adding to the appeal of this coin with Uncirculated sharpness. The S.S. Republic yielded 19 examples of the 1845-O, including a number of AU coins and two Mint State pieces. One has to wonder if this coin is one of the recovered eagles, although there is no such indication on the holder.
