Gold coin specialist and collector extraordinaire Harry Bass owned no fewer than four examples of the 1871, of which only 60 to 75 coins are believed extant from mintage of 1,790 pieces. The 1871 is a rarity in any grade, and this partly lustrous yellow-gold ten will fit nicely into any advanced set. Scattered marks over each side aid in identification.
