1880-O $10 AU55 PCGS. CAC. Variety 1. Token quantities of gold eagles were among the coins struck at the New Orleans Mint in the early years following its reopening in 1879. In 1880, ten dollar gold piece production topped out at 9,200 pieces, of which only a handful of coins survive in Mint State. This Choice AU representative displays sharp detail and original olive-gold patina with lustrous orange-gold undertones. Surface chatter is typical of the issue and grade. Population: 30 in 55, 15 finer. CAC: 3 in 55, 5 finer (11/16).
