Liberty Double Eagles
1851 $20 AU55 PCGS. Large deposits of gold from the rich California mines resulted in a blockbuster mintage of more than 2 million Liberty double eagles at the Philadelphia Mint in 1851. Like most early Type One twenties, the 1851 is abundant in lower circulated grades, but Mint State examples are elusive. The vivid orange-gold surfaces of this Choice AU specimen are lightly abraded, with much of their original mint luster intact.
