Liberty Double Eagles
1857-S $20 Spiked Shield, Variety 20A, MS64 PCGS. Ex: S.S. Central America, SSCA 2737. This fully struck near-Gem offers glowing, frosty mint luster in rich yellow-gold hues that deepen around the outer peripheries. The reverse is virtually pristine, although a few light marks on Liberty's cheek on the obverse determine the grade. A beautiful memento of the famous treasure ship that sank in a hurricane off the coast of North Carolina in September 1857.
