Liberty Double Eagles
1861 $20 MS61 PCGS. A high influx of gold from the West accounted for the massive output of nearly 3 million double eagles from the Philadelphia Mint in 1861. Uncirculated survivors can be found with some searching, but are apt to be no finer than MS62. This is a sharply struck, green and rose-gold representative of the Type One design. Thickly frosted with few major abrasions.
