1861 $20 MS62 NGC. The fields are uncommonly smooth for the grade, although extensive scrutiny with a loupe locates some inconspicuous marks on the cheek. While an available date before the recovery of the S.S. Republic, since the recovery of those coins the 1861 has become an even more obtainable Type One issue. Still, examples remain scarce relative to demand, partly because of its Civil War date. Census: 76 in 62, 49 finer (10/16).
