Liberty Double Eagles
1869-S $20 AU58 PCGS. CAC. The case of the 1869-S double eagle is no different from other gold and silver coins struck at the San Francisco Mint during this period. Examples circulated extensively in the West, and collectors made little effort to save mintmarked coins for numismatic purposes. Thus, the 1869-S is scarcely seen in AU58, and Mint State survivors are rare. The centers on this Type Two double eagle are boldly rendered, but the peripheries are a touch soft. Lively medium yellow-gold surfaces showcase eye-appealing lavender and orange accents. Distracting abrasions are incredibly scant.
