Liberty Double Eagles
1873 $20 Closed 3 MS60 PCGS. Much rarer than the Open 3 variety, the Closed 3 double eagle made up only a small portion of the 1.7 million-piece mintage in 1873. Even comparable MS60 coins are very scarce. Full cartwheel mint luster flows across the lightly abraded surfaces. The coin retains its Mint-fresh look despite the scuffs and some deep, dirty-gold accents. Underrated for the importance of the Closed 3 type and the scarcity of original-surface survivors. Population: 26 in 60, 33 finer (11/16).
