1889 $20 MS62 PCGS. The double eagles of 1889 are infrequently found above the MS62 level. Indeed, PCGS and NGC have certified only about 40 examples finer (11/16). In this regard, Fuljenz (2015) writes: "The 1889 ... has a great rarity factor. It is very hard to find even in MS62." Yellow-gold, lustrous surfaces exhibit sharply struck devices throughout. Additionally, this piece reveals fewer and less severe abrasions than typically encountered.
