Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles
1909-D $20 MS62 PCGS. Just 52,500 pieces were struck -- a small mintage in the context of the Saint-Gaudens series, with the few survivors usually returned to collectors via Switzerland, France, or South American holdings. This example shows signs of handling in the form of tiny marks over the finely textured surfaces. Still, vibrant orange-gold color gives this scarce, low-mintage Denver issue excellent eye appeal. The strike is a bit blunt on the torch hand, yet the balance of the motifs are sharply struck.
