Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles
1922-S $20 MS64 PCGS. CAC. Formerly a great rarity in the Saint-Gaudens series until after World War II when the troops came marching home, and so did the 1922-S from overseas holdings. It is still a better date in near-Gem or finer conditions and a popular San Francisco issue from the early 1920s. This example approaches a finer grade with attractive apricot-gold color and minimally marked surfaces. Ten full fingers are visible on Liberty's two hands. A sharply lustrous example with only minor incompleteness at the Capitol dome. PCGS shows just 20 numerically finer pieces (11/16).
