Territorial Gold
1854 $20 Kellogg & Co. Twenty Dollar AU50 NGC. K-1b, R.5. Short Arrows. Growing pains at the fledgling San Francisco Mint caused select Bay Area assay firms to issue their own private gold coins. Most were melted once the local mint became efficient. Five die marriages of 1854 Kellogg & Co. twenties are known. All are very scarce to rare except for K-2a, which is very rare. This lemon-gold representative has lustrous borders and devices. The surfaces show the expected number of small marks. Listed on page 402 of the 2017 Guide Book.
