Territorial Gold
1861 $10 Clark, Gruber & Co. Ten Dollar -- Filed Rims -- PCGS Genuine. AU Details. K-7, R.4. The second and final year of Clark, Gruber coinage abandoned the volcanic Pikes Peak motif on the ten and twenty, and instead imitated their Federal counterparts. The change was likely made to increase the acceptance of the private pioneer gold coins in the Denver area. The PIKES PEAK legend survived, though, substituted for LIBERTY on the coronet. This better grade example has minimal wear and ample luster. The luminous surfaces show a minor retained lamination below the lowest arrowhead, but are minimally marked aside from a filed area on the reverse rim near 3:30. Listed on page 406 of the 2017 Guide Book.
