S.S.C.A. Relic Gold Medals
(2001) 1855 $50 SSCA Relic Gold Medal "1855 Kellogg & Co. Fifty" Gem Proof PCGS. Struck on September 9, 2001, one of 104 proofs produced on that date. A relic medal struck from 1309 grains of 887 Fine gold, as obtained from melted unsold Kellogg & Humbert bars recovered from the S.S. Central America. The design closely imitates the genuine proof 1855 Kellogg & Co. fifty dollar pieces. The present piece is essentially pristine. Frosty motifs contrast with glassy fields. Comes with a certificate of authenticity, brochure, copper frame, outer box and slipcover, and a commemorative screwdriver. All that is missing is the glass inset of the copper frame.
